Job description
Overview

Ogilvy UK is a global agency known for integrating brand advertising, customer experience marketing, PR, influence and consulting, fuelled by behavioural science. The role is Senior Influence Strategist for a large tech client, based in London, fixed-term (12 months), full time, reporting into Influence Strategy Director. The role sits within the PR & Influence department.

The role

We are looking for a brilliant thinker who creates consumer and corporate strategies rooted in culture that earn the right to be seen and talked about. You should be influence-first, embedded in social culture and up-to-date with the latest channel formats and trends. You should be comfortable with both paid and earned strategies and excited by working across multiple portfolios. You will bring insight, inspiration and strategic counsel to a broad range of high-profile corporate and consumer brands across paid and earned efforts. You’ll work primarily within the Influence team and collaborate with other Ogilvy mega businesses where earned-first experience and insight is relevant. You’ll have access to diverse tools across customer experience, behavioural science, advertising and branding.

The mission of the strategy team is to find smart answers to client challenges and to make the agency’s creative output the best it can be. Projects include brand-led strategic positioning, launching new products with influencers and services, developing communications frameworks and research expertise among others. Collaboration with other planners and creative teams is vital, as is a natural curiosity for how customers interact with brands.

The Skillset: We seek someone with a thirst for unlocking powerful influence insights and communications plans to drive paid and earned thinking across the creative process.

Defining the problem: What have we been asked to do, what can we do, what should we do?

  • Help senior clients formulate better briefs and define the true nature of their problem.
  • Help senior clients understand the role of influence strategy within their broader communications and marketing planning.
  • Lead and design stakeholder immersion processes to get under the skin of a business problem.
  • Consistently frame business problems in a surprising and fresh way. A master re-framer.
  • Seen as an integral member of the client team—the go-to consultant for influence strategy.

Insight Creation: Finding things out, filtering them, rethinking laterally to inspire.

Note: Text originally indicated notes in emphasis; kept as plain wording.

  • Be our cultural ear to the ground, bring new inspiration and research on trends, tribes, new innovations, and fresh thinking within influencer marketing and beyond.
  • Bring external insight to sharpen briefs and identify compelling creative territories.
  • Able to assess research findings quickly and derive new knowledge and insights.
  • Stay on the cutting edge of innovative research techniques and advocate their use.

Setting the Path: Provide inspiration, clarity & confidence to the team about what needs to be done.

  • Lead the creation of new brand strategies across client business, not just campaigns.
  • Familiar with paid, owned, earned influence strategies and principles.
  • Champion strategic influence ideas within the agency and with clients across the business.

Ideation: Help creative and other disciplines generate better ideas, faster.

  • Develop proactive briefs and inspire clients and the agency on influence potential.
  • Create new models for the future of paid and earned influence communications.
  • Ensure channel/technology/audience thinking is embedded in every creative strategy.
  • Articulate how an idea can influence all elements of client business, not just communications.

Prototyping and Storytelling: Define the idea, prove it, communicate and sell it.

  • Structure and lead a winning pitch without heavy reliance on others.
  • Present to Marketing Directors and beyond with confidence and polish.
  • Be a highly polished presenter in both formal and informal settings.

Manifesting the Work: Craft the experience journey and delivery detail to bring the idea to life.

  • Influence senior clients to experiment with new channels, content and technology.
  • Develop detailed strategies for earned and paid communications across corporate and consumer clients for influence.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of social strategies across influence and related areas.
  • Own the development of how an idea can road-map over a three-to-five-year horizon.

Measurement and Effectiveness: Prove if, how and why the work created real value for the business and consumers.

  • Set up projects for integrated evaluation from the start.
  • Contribute to the creation of effectiveness studies.
  • Be familiar with different measurement tools and metrics and understand their pros and cons.
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of campaigns beyond key metrics (influence on society, etc.).
