Within the Group HR Policy and Employee Experience team, we are at the heart of Department for Transport (DfT) HR developing, delivering, and maintaining all terms and conditions for DfT Group, comprised of DfT core and our five executive agencies thereby supporting around 16,000 members of staff.

This role will have the opportunity to act as lead on certain policies and represent DfT in cross civil service conversations on the creation and alteration of Civil Service policies, as well as support the Group HR Policy Lead in high profile projects. We are integral to providing HR expertise and insight for colleagues, as well as responding to challenging queries, engaging with legal colleagues and fostering strong and collaborative relationships with our Trade Unions.

This role requires an eye for detail and the bigger picture as we analyse new legislation and modernise policies to help staff understand their terms and conditions. You will provide expertise, insight and challenge to colleagues across the group with opportunities for senior visibility, as well as supporting team members and leaders within the team on key policy updates. The balance of our staff across the group provides an additional level of nuance and consideration.

Responsibilities

Ownership of a range of HR policies such as ways of working & performance management. Contribute to the development of new HR policies in response to organisational priorities or employment law changes. Manage the design and implementation of policies including taking through governance routes. Handle in-depth and complex queries and act as a subject matter expert for briefings. Represent DfT as an active member of cross group and government policy groups. Lead on people data requests, including data cleansing & analysis to inform our strategy. Support colleagues in key engagement activities with trade unions. Act as a leader and sounding board for other projects and initiatives within the team.
