Senior Freight Operations Coordinator

Location: Birmingham, Redditch

Salary: £30,000 - £36,000

Job Type: Full Time, Permanent

An established and growing freight forwarding business is seeking an experienced Senior Freight Operations Coordinator to join its operations team. This role would suit a strong all‑round operator with a background in sea freight and a hands‑on approach to managing complex shipments and key customer relationships.

Job Role:
  • Manage sea freight import and export shipments end‑to‑end
  • Liaise with carriers, overseas agents, hauliers, and internal teams
  • Handle customs processes, documentation, and clearance coordination
  • Finalise bookings, review costs, and ensure accurate invoicing
  • Monitor charges such as demurrage and quay rent and resolve disputes
  • Produce and check shipping documentation (HBLs / MBLs where required)
  • Act as an escalation point for operational issues and delays
  • Support service delivery on key or high‑volume accounts
  • Contribute to process improvements and operational best practice
Job Requirements:
  • Proven experience in freight forwarding operations (sea freight essential)
  • Strong understanding of import/export procedures and customs processes
  • Experience working with carriers and managing operational disruptions
  • High attention to detail with strong organisational skills
  • Confident communicator with a customer‑focused mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously
  • Experience in European road freight is beneficial but not essential
