Overview

Senior Field Engineer - RF Radio Communications

West London, Permanent £50k-£65k + vehicle + paid overtime

Mage Global is recruiting on behalf of a rapidly growing tech business in the communications and surveillance space. The company delivers secure solutions to clients ranging from government departments and iconic institutions to schools and universities.

Technical & RF Skills
  • Strong understanding of RF propagation, coverage, and interference.
  • Hands-on experience with two-way radio systems (Motorola, Hytera, Sepura, Kenwood, etc.).
  • Knowledge of trunked systems (e.g., DMR Tier III, TETRA, Capacity Max, Capacity Plus).
  • Experience with system design, installation, commissioning, and fault-finding.
  • Proficiency in programming/codeplugs and firmware upgrades for handsets and mobiles.
  • Familiarity with IP networking for radio over IP (RoIP), gateways, and integration.
  • Experience with antenna systems, combiners, multicouplers, DAS, and RF distribution.
  • Competence in test equipment: spectrum analyzers, service monitors, VSWR meters, etc.
  • Awareness of Ofcom licensing, frequency planning, and regulatory requirements.
Project & Operational Skills
  • Ability to lead installations on sites (vehicles, base stations, control rooms, etc.).
  • Experience with site surveys, coverage testing, and producing technical reports.
  • Capability to manage projects end-to-end, from design through to handover.
  • Strong documentation skills - producing as-builts, method statements, risk assessments.
  • Understanding of health & safety and site compliance requirements.
Leadership & Soft Skills
  • Mentoring and supporting junior engineers.
  • Liaising confidently with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Ability to troubleshoot under pressure and provide clear solutions.
  • Strong organisational skills to juggle multiple tasks/projects.
  • Proactive attitude - spotting issues early and recommending improvements.
