Our local authority client are looking for an experienced Interim Senior Estates Surveyor to take a key role in managing and developing a varied property portfolio that supports vital community services. You will be joining a dedicated Property & Asset Management team at a time of organisational change and service improvement. This is a strategic role offering the opportunity to make a real impact on the council’s property estate and the wider community.
About You:
- Professionally qualified – RICS. Substantial experience in estates and asset management, ideally within a local government or public sector setting.
- Strong working knowledge of landlord and tenant legislation, valuation methods, and property law. Commercial and strategic mindset and the ability to balance financial, operational, and community priorities.
- Skilled in negotiation and stakeholder management, with excellent verbal and written communication abilities. Self-motivated and capable of managing a busy and varied workload with minimal supervision
Key Responsibilities:
- Asset Management: Lead on the day-to-day management of a diverse property portfolio including operational buildings, investment assets, commercial properties, and land holdings.
- Estates Transactions: Undertake and oversee a broad range of estate management functions such as lease renewals, rent reviews, landlord and tenant matters, acquisitions, disposals, licences, wayleaves and easements.
- Valuation & Strategy: Provide Red Book valuations and strategic property advice to support service delivery, regeneration projects, and capital programmes. Service Support: Work closely with other council departments to provide property advice aligned with service needs, budget pressures, and statutory obligations. (e.g. the Planning department)
- Governance & Compliance: Ensure all property dealings adhere to statutory regulations, internal governance processes, and best practice in public sector asset management.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Liaise effectively with tenants, legal teams, external consultants, councillors, and senior leadership to ensure transparency and value for money.
