Job Opportunity: Senior Mechanical Engineer at MWH Treatment

As part of our ongoing service to Thames Water and our expanding projects into AMP8, MWH Treatment is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to strengthen our Engineering team. This position is based at the Thames Water region (Maple Lodge office) and reports directly to the Regional Discipline Lead (Mechanical).

Our work involves a challenging programme of water and wastewater schemes valued at approximately £400M. We offer hybrid working conditions and competitive remuneration packages. Key Responsibilities
  1. Report to Principal Engineer, Design Managers, Technical Discipline Lead, and Regional Discipline Lead.
  2. Produce cost-effective design layouts that meet specifications and are feasible for construction and commissioning.
  3. Prepare and review all design deliverables including specifications, schedules, drawings, and calculations.
  4. Collaborate with other disciplines on site/plant 3D modeling.
  5. Utilize standard designs and practices wherever possible.
  6. Deliver design outputs within the agreed timescales and budgets.
  7. Coordinate design outputs across all technical disciplines.
  8. Maintain competitiveness in design solutions.
  9. Provide estimates and feedback to the Proposals department.
  10. Build relationships with construction staff and supply chain to promote buildability and efficiency.
  11. Follow procedures and contribute to the development of departmental processes.
  12. Monitor and review procedures for continuous improvement.
  13. Ensure design coordination with all internal and external disciplines.
  14. Maintain comprehensive files and records during project execution.
  15. Ensure customer satisfaction and promote a customer-centric culture.
  16. Engage in personal development and staff supervision.
  17. Ensure a safe working environment for all staff.
  18. Minimize waste and consider environmental issues in designs.
  19. Adhere to CDM 2015 Regulations and health and safety standards.
Essential Requirements
  • Proven experience in engineering principles including structures, materials, hydraulics, and environmental engineering.
  • Understanding of water and sewage treatment principles.
  • Experience in managing or mentoring staff in relevant discipline design.
  • Membership of a professional institution, chartered or nearing chartership.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant engineering degree.
  • Minimum HND in relevant discipline.
  • Ability to rationalize designs and produce economical plant layouts.
  • Broad knowledge of water treatment aspects, including mechanical, process, electrical engineering, and project management.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Computer literacy and a valid driving license.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status and a relevant Master’s Degree are desirable.
