JA1434 Senior Electrical Design Engineer

Location: Fareham

Type: Permanent, Full-time

Salary: GBP45,000 – GBP60,000

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join our client’s business, which specializes in computers, racks, rack integration, tablets, technology, engineering, manufacturing, electro-mechanical systems, sheet metal, wireless sensors, defense, automation, communications, energy, transport, healthcare, edge computing, and micro data-centres.

The successful candidate must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to the needs of an SME-sized business and meet the following requirements:

Experience (Essential):

• Extensive experience as an electrical design engineer across various projects adhering to compliance standards.
• Experience in original electrical design, with evidence on the CV, especially if acting as Design Authority.
• Designing AC and DC systems for markets including defense.
• Designing cable and connector assemblies for highly regulated industries.
• Experience in computing or rack-based electrical hardware design.
• Designing power management systems.
• Previous role as a design authority on significant projects, actively developing organizational capability.
• Experience working with low voltage DC power, communication circuits, low and medium voltage AC power systems, and electrical safety assessments against IEC 62368 standards.

Skills (Essential):

• Designing electrical hardware solutions from concept to production, following best practices.
• Translating customer requirements into designs that meet specifications.
• Design for manufacture and testing.
• Simulation, prototyping, testing, data analysis, and interpretation.
• Generating and reviewing design documentation.
• Component selection and BOM creation.
• Proficiency with electrical drawing software, e.g., SolidWorks Electrical.

Desirable Experience:

• Knowledge of BS EN standards (62368, 61010), Military specs (Def-Stan).
• Regulatory compliance (CE/UKCA).
• ISO 9001 standards or similar methodologies.
• Computing infrastructure experience.

Education:

• At least an HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering; a bachelor’s degree preferred.

Security Clearance:

• BPSS Security Clearance required.
• Interview process includes presenting electrical designs and discussing challenges faced.

Screening Questions:

• Experience in original electrical design and design authority roles.
• Experience with low voltage AC/DC systems, cable assemblies, computing/rack hardware, power management.
