Are you an experienced SEND practitioner who thrives on leading others, solving complex challenges, and driving high standards for children and young people? Do you bring confidence, clarity and compassion to your work? If you're ready to step into a role with real influence — this could be your next move.

The Role

As a Deputy Area Inclusion Lead, you'll play a key leadership role within Medway's Assessment Team. You'll help oversee high-quality Education, Health and Care (EHC) assessments, ensure statutory compliance, support practitioners, and champion excellent practice that improves outcomes for children and young people with SEND.

You’ll be a trusted expert — guiding staff, supporting families, coordinating multi‑agency teams, and ensuring that EHC Plans are robust, clear, and centred on the aspirations of each child or young person.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Supporting the Assessment Team to deliver timely, high‑quality EHC Plans that meet legal requirements.
  • Monitoring and improving quality, ensuring statutory timeframes and compliance standards are met.
  • Providing supervision, coaching and supporting staff to deliver excellence.
  • Managing complex caseloads, while helping others manage theirs effectively.
  • Acting as a key liaison between schools, services and families, ensuring seamless partnership working.
  • Coordinating multi‑agency assessment processes, ensuring accurate, evidence‑based contributions.
  • Driving data quality and analysis, contributing to statutory reports and inspections.
  • Deputising for the Assessment Team Lead, including at meetings, panels and operational decision‑making.
  • Championing a customer‑centred culture, strengthening relationships with parents, carers and young people.
What You’ll Bring
  • Substantial experience within SEND, including strong application of the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Proven ability to manage complex caseloads and support others to do the same.
  • Confident communication skills, able to influence, negotiate and handle complex or sensitive situations.
  • Experience of multi‑agency working and translating specialist advice into clear, accessible plans.
  • Strong understanding of legal frameworks, safeguarding, SENDIST processes and the EHCP pathway.
  • The ability to analyse problems, spot patterns and create effective solutions.
  • High professional standards, with the ability to challenge and support colleagues.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for children, young people and families.
  • Must have previous experience working within Local Authority, supporting or managing SEND statutory processes.
