Overview

Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust – Senior Dosimetrist

We are seeking a motivated and skilled Band 6 Dosimetrist to join our dynamic radiotherapy team. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning and delivery of high-quality radiotherapy treatments, working closely with clinical oncologists, therapeutic radiographers, and medical physicists. You will be responsible for producing accurate and efficient treatment plans using advanced treatment planning systems, ensuring compliance with local protocols, national standards, and best practice guidelines.

Main duties of the job
  • To carry out radiotherapy treatment planning as part of a team in the Treatment Planning Service
  • Liaise closely with a wide range of staff in Oncology and Radiotherapy, including medical staff, physicists, technicians and radiographers.
  • Support developmental work within the department
  • To undertake work as part of project based teams to assist in the development of new techniques and processes.

Job responsibilities

To liaise with other health care professionals, including and in particular Radiographers, and Consultant medical staff.

To communicate & discuss complex planning & brachytherapy issues with Radiographers, Consultant medical staff & Physics staff.

Provide teaching to small groups of radiography, medical or physics students.

Deliver presentations to a large audience of peers at local or national scientific meeting/conferences.

To assist with the documentation required for ISO9001 accreditation.

To keep and maintain all records as appropriate.

To plan and record data accurately for use in patient treatments.

To plan workload delegated by the section manager, and organise projects allocated.

Produce routine and complex treatment plans, in accordance with relevant clinical protocols.

Check that all patient images required to produce treatment plans are available.

Co-register images from different sources; evaluating the validity of the co-registration.

Accurately outline anatomical volumes from CT scans for Gross Tumour Volumes and Organs at Risk, where trained.

Advise clinical staff on the effects of various treatment plan options on patient dose distributions.

Check treatment plans generated by other staff for accuracy and appropriateness prior to treatment commencing.

Assist with the development of new techniques in conjunction with other staff groups and take an active role in introducing new equipment and clinical techniques
