Job description
About the Role

Join a dynamic and innovative civil engineering construction company at the forefront of delivering hyperscale data centre projects. We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to contribute to a flagship £171m+ data centre development in London. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting‑edge infrastructure that powers the digital future, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to ensure structural integrity, sustainability, and compliance in a fast‑paced environment. If you thrive on complex challenges and have a passion for civil engineering in high‑tech sectors, this role offers the chance to make a significant impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of civil and structural elements for data centre facilities, including foundations, superstructures, site infrastructure, and utility integrations.
  • Collaborate with MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Public Health) teams to integrate designs for systems such as cooling infrastructure, electrical containment, and security protocols.
  • Conduct detailed structural analysis, risk assessments, and value engineering to optimise designs for cost, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Prepare and review technical drawings, specifications, and models using software like AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM tools.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, including ISO 27001 for data security, building regulations, and environmental guidelines.
  • Manage design changes, variations, and stakeholder consultations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support site teams with technical guidance during construction phases, troubleshooting issues related to groundworks, drainage, and structural stability.
  • Contribute to productivity analysis, forecasting, and reporting to align designs with commercial and operational goals.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field; professional accreditation (e.g., Chartered Engineer status with ICE) is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 8+ years of experience in civil engineering design, with proven expertise in large‑scale infrastructure projects—ideally data centres, industrial facilities, or high‑tech builds.
  • Strong technical knowledge of structural systems, geotechnical engineering, and integration with MEP packages (e.g., UPS systems, cooling units, and electrical infrastructure).
  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD.Pro) and familiarity with NEC/JCT contracts.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills, with a track record of managing risks, opportunities, and value engineering.
  • Experience in hyperscale or mission‑critical environments, including compliance with security and governance standards.
  • Strong communication and leadership abilities to foster collaboration across design, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Willingness to work on‑site in London with flexibility for dynamic project demands.
What We Offer
  • Competitive salary and performance‑based bonuses.
  • Comprehensive benefits including pension, private healthcare, and professional development opportunities.
  • Exposure to innovative projects with global tech leaders.
  • Supportive team environment with a focus on work‑life balance and career progression.
  • State‑of‑the‑art tools and resources to drive excellence in engineering.
