This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly expanding FM provider with an excellent reputation across the South.
We are recruiting a Senior Contract Manager to take full ownership of the operational and strategic performance of a key contract, while also providing senior expertise across our wider contract portfolio.
Working primarily from our Portsmouth office, this role carries responsibility for day‑to‑day contract delivery, higher‑level performance management, financial stewardship, and people development.
Given the technical nature of this contract, we specifically require someone with a strong mechanical engineering background.
- Provide authoritative technical guidance across engineering activities
- Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and best practice
- Support engineering teams with troubleshooting, quality assurance, and complex technical queries
- Confidently engage with clients on technical matters and translate engineering requirements into clear operational actions

Key Responsibilities and Development areas will Include (but not limited to):
Operational
- Take senior ownership for the operational performance of a key contract, ensuring compliance, PPM, reactive maintenance and life‑cycle tasks are delivered to required standards.
- Oversee the daily delivery, technical assurance, and continual development of the contract.
- Work closely with the engineering team and specialist subcontractors, providing visible leadership, coordination, and technical support.
- Deputise for Contract Managers or Supervisors across the wider portfolio when required.
- Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Participate in the out‑of‑hours escalation rota, providing decisive leadership during urgent situations.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Act as the senior relationship holder, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and proactive engagement.
- Attend and lead client meetings, progress reviews, and performance boards.
- Provide professional, confident, solution‑driven support in a client‑facing environment.
- Manage escalations, ensuring issues are resolved swiftly and effectively.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Lead on H&S performance across the contract, conducting audits, inspections, and compliance checks.
- Produce and review RAMS, ensuring safe systems of work and adherence to legislation.
- Maintain a safe environment for engineers, site users, and the public at all times.
- Promote a culture of safety through regular communication and engagement.
People
- Line‑manage Supervisors and operational teams, guiding them through coaching, development planning, and performance reviews.
- Ensure labour resources are planned effectively, well organised, and deployed in line with contract priorities.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, and customer focus within the contract team.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, and skills development to build strong, capable teams.
Financial/Commercial
- Ownership of contract profitability, financial forecasting, and commercial performance.
- Review and approve applications for payment, variations, WIP, and invoicing.
- Ensure materials, labour and subcontractor costs are monitored and controlled.
- Produce estimates and quotations with detailed breakdowns, clarity of scope, exclusions and limitations.
- Identify and generate additional business opportunities and value‑added improvements within the contract.
Quality Assurance & Systems
- Ensure documentation and CAFM records are accurate, timely, and compliant.
- Monitor quality of work, materials, and service delivery through regular site visits and audits.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of operational processes, standards and contract‑specific systems.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
Essential
- Strong knowledge of hard FM service delivery, ideally within multi‑trade and public‑sector environments.
- Technical Background in Mechanical or Electrical Service delivery.
- Proven experience in Contract Management, Account Management, or similar leadership roles.
- Commercial awareness of reactive and planned service contracts.
- Excellent people management and team‑leadership skills.
- Understanding of HR procedures, including performance and absence management.
- Proven track record of delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
- IT literate, confident using Microsoft packages and CAFM systems.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to pass enhanced DBS checks (schools / vulnerable environments)
Desirable
- NEC3 term service contract experience.
- Knowledge of open‑book or cost‑reimbursable contract structures.
- Familiarity with Systems Thinking / Vanguard methodologies.
- Strong CAFM capability (Planon experience advantageous).
- Background managing large‑scale local authority or housing portfolios
