Job description
Overview

The primary purpose of the Blast Assessment Senior Consultant role is to apply expert knowledge and innovative engineering solutions to mitigate the effects of blast events on structures and people. This role is critical in ensuring the safety and resilience of infrastructure against blast threats, both natural and man-made. The successful candidate will be responsible not only for designing robust, blast-resistant structures but also for understanding and addressing the broader implications of a blast event, including its impact on people, emergency response, and long-term business resilience.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of how blast events impact structures and people in the vicinity, using advanced simulation tools and real-world data.
  • Evaluate structural vulnerabilities and provide recommendations to enhance blast resistance in both new and existing structures.
  • Develop and implement novel engineering solutions that address blast loading while also considering the aesthetic and functional requirements of the project.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams, including architects, civil engineers, and emergency planners, to integrate blast protection measures into broader design strategies.
  • Assess the potential aftermath of blast events, focusing on human safety, structural integrity, and continuity of operations.
  • Develop strategies for emergency response, ensuring that structures not only withstand initial blasts but also facilitate safe evacuation and post-event operations.
  • Work with business continuity teams to enhance the resilience of facilities, ensuring minimal disruption to operations in the event of a blast.
  • Maintaining accurate financial forecasting, project planning, resource planning, and financial reporting.
  • Operational planning and management of engagements, including quality oversight of operational and document-based deliverables and compliance with Control Risks policies, standards and methodologies.
  • Operational responsibility for and collaborative input into performance management of team members.
  • Creating proposals and building project budgets to define scope and determine pricing prior to sign-off by designated managers.
  • Adopt innovative approaches to development of current practices and new solutions and act as a thought leader and coordinate with peer group across the business.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, with a focus on blast engineering, structural dynamics, or a related discipline is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding and mitigating the effects of blasts on both structures and people.
  • Familiarity with emergency response planning and business resilience strategies related to blast events.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a creative approach to developing effective blast mitigation solutions.
  • Expertise in using blast modelling and simulation software, such as LS-DYNA, AutoCAD, Viper or similar tools.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to a diverse audience.
  • Project management experience, with the ability to lead complex projects and manage cross-functional teams is desirable.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to project sites as required.
  • Strong commitment to safety, ethical engineering practices, and continuous professional development.
Benefits and commitments
