Senior Commissioning Engineer (Clean Water)

Salary: £50,000 - £55,000

As Anglian Water progresses into AMP8, we are investing heavily in upgrading and expanding our Clean Water infrastructuretreatment works, pumping stations, network enhancements and advanced digital control systems. Our Commissioning Team plays a vital part in ensuring these new assets perform safely, efficiently and consistently from day one.

Working within our Water Business Unit, you’ll help bring major AMP8 Clean Water schemes into operational service, directly contributing to resilience, quality and regulatory compliance across the region.

The Role

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Senior Commissioning Engineer to lead commissioning across complex Clean Water projects.

You will act as a technical expert and mentor, helping standardise best practice, supporting early-stage design, and leading on‑site commissioning activities throughout AMP8. You’ll collaborate closely with engineering, construction, operational and portfolio teams to ensure new assets are handed over safely and in full working order.

Key Responsibilities
Mentoring and Knowledge Sharing
  • Develop and document commissioning best practice for Clean Water assets.
  • Mentor apprentices and assistant engineers to support capability development for AMP8.
  • Deliver Commissioning Masterclass presentations and share knowledge across the organisation.
Design Support
  • Collaborate with Solutions Managers on innovative Clean Water solutions and ensure commissioning requirements are built in early.
  • Provide feedback on Minimum Asset Standards, Proven Designs and Standard Products.
  • Work with M&E and process engineers to ensure proposed solutions are safe to commission and operate.
Commissioning Planning
  • Produce Commissioning Plans for AMP8 Clean Water projects and integrate them with construction programmes.
  • Develop Impact Plans to avoid interruptions to water supply or quality.
  • Produce commissioning RAMS and define testing deliverables.
Leading Commissioning On Site
  • Lead on‑site activities for multiple Commissioning Engineers across complex Clean Water schemes.
  • Deliver commissioning activities in accordance with AWS safety and operational procedures including POSWSH and POSTEL.
  • Carry out FATs, SATs, PLC testing, telemetry testing, dry and wet commissioning.
  • Optimise automated control systems and Clean Water processes to ensure best performance.
  • Produce all commissioning documentation and ensure safe, complete handover to Operations.
  • Capture and share lessons learned to enhance future AMP delivery.
Who We’re Looking For

A proactive, technically capable commissioning engineer with Clean Water experience, excellent communication skills and the confidence to lead commissioning delivery on complex sites.

Essential qualifications & experience
  • Degree or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, Process or related engineering
  • Strong commissioning experience within Clean Water or related treatment processes
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers
  • Strong planning, communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Understanding of automated control systems and process optimisation

Experience delivering AMP projects would be beneficial but not essential.
