Senior Clinical Scientist – Radiotherapy Physics

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT) is one of the largest radiotherapy providers in the East of England, delivering treatments to over 3000 patients per year across Ipswich and Colchester sites. Ipswich Hospital is seeking a Senior Clinical Scientist in Radiotherapy.

You will hold registration as an MPE in radiotherapy and participate in a broad range of radiotherapy physics activities including quality assurance of radiotherapy treatment equipment, treatment planning, and providing assistance with computing throughout the department. You will work closely with colleagues within our multi-disciplinary team of physicists, engineers, radiographers and clinicians.

Ipswich Hospital is equipped with 3 TrueBeam multi-modality linear accelerators routinely delivering VMAT, FFF and SABR techniques, and an Ethos linear accelerator with Hypersight imaging. The department has a virtual Aria environment utilising the Varian cloud solution, and treatment plans are produced using the Eclipse treatment planning system. We have a Phillips Big Bore CT scanner with TumorLoc virtual simulation system and AI volume delineation and dedicated MR scanning slots for radiotherapy. We work closely with nuclear medicine to deliver a molecular radiotherapy service.

For this role you will hold the RPA2000 certificate of competence to act as an MPE as well as HCPC registration as a clinical scientist along with an honours degree in physics with relevant postgraduate experience.

Main duties of the job

Fulfil the role of Medical Physics Expert (MPE) for Radiotherapy as described in Regulation 14 of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposures) Regulations 2017.

To assist in the provision of the Radiotherapy Physics service (external beam radiotherapy and molecular radiotherapy) at Ipswich Hospital. Participate in research and development activity.

Provide the day to day management of clinical scientists and trainees and work closely with Clinical Oncology staff, to ensure a high quality clinical, scientific and technical service to Radiotherapy.

Maintain high standards in the safe and effective application of physical principles to Radiotherapy Physics in the performance of staff, clinical procedures and the utilisation of equipment and radiation sources.
