Job Summary

An exciting opportunity to join a growing orthoplastic service within the major trauma centre at Salford Royal Hospital of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust (NCA). Salford Royal Hospital MTC hosts the regional neurosurgery and dermatology services as well as The Greater Manchester Major Trauma Hospital. The orthoplastic service provides plastic surgery cover for all patients attending the MTC including those with hand trauma and limb reconstructive trauma that present.

As the senior clinical fellows appointed to the department, the successful applicants will join a growing consultant body, a team of SHOs, a dedicated FY1, and allied health professionals. The successful candidate will be based at Salford Royal with elective lists also based at other hospitals within the Northern Care Alliance. The successful applicant must have full registration with the GMC and continue to hold a Licence to Practise. The job plan will be subject to review during the initial six months period and again at 12 months to help streamline the development of the department. There is scope for performance based contract extension.

Main Duties
  • Supervised responsibility for the care of patients in his/her care, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.
  • Multidisciplinary teamwork (MDT) discussion with other colleagues.
  • Evidence-based care for patients in a multidisciplinary setting.
  • Appropriate duties in cases of emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
  • A mixture of supervised and leading ward rounds.
  • Being available as a point of senior reference to SHOs for plastics inpatients and new referrals.
  • Outpatients clinics in hand surgery, plastics trauma, lower limb reconstruction and skin oncology.
  • Practical experience in elective and trauma surgery under supervision, with independent operating where appropriate.
  • Joining an on call rota, currently with an 1:7 intensity.
