Job description
Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric ENT

The closing date is 17 January 2026

The post is for tenure for twelve months. The appointment is primarily based at St. Thomas's Hospital. All paediatric surgery takes place at Evelina Children's Hospital. On-call duties will also include some off-site emergency activity at Guy's Hospital. The position is full-time and will include on-call commitments at an experienced SpR level. It offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in advanced Laryngology and Otology. Some undergraduate and post‑graduate teaching and participation in audit is required. Candidates should have appropriate clinical and operative experience.

Main duties of the job
  • To assist in the provision of high quality Paediatric ENT services to Trust patients, including the development of the service.
  • To participate in clinical and other service activities with the object of ensuring a high quality of patient care and to contribute to service developments.
  • To take part in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.
  • To participate in research activities with the Department.
  • To help maintain the data collection of patients.
About us

Our children's ear, nose and throat (ENT) service is one of the largest and most specialised in the UK.

We see children from across south London and south east England with conditions including:

  • airway, breathing and voice problems
  • adenoid and tonsil conditions, including sleep apnoea and tonsillitis
  • conditions needing hearing implant surgery, including cochlear implants, middle ear implants and bone anchored hearing aids
  • ear disease and conditions needing ear surgery
  • nose and sinus conditions
  • inherited and acquired head and neck problems
  • ear, nose and throat emergencies

Our ear, nose and throat team includes consultant surgeons, specialist nurses, speech therapists and other professionals.

Many of the children we see have complex medical conditions and need long‑term support. We work closely with colleagues in other departments at Evelina London Children's Hospital, in the community and at other hospitals to provide this.

We regularly participate in clinical research to improve our understanding of ENT conditions for the benefit of our patients.

Person Specification
Knowledge and Skills
  • Ability to work as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team
  • Proven teaching skills and a commitment to the training of junior doctors
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to relate with colleagues—clinical and non‑clinical, patients and carers
  • Team based approach to care and service management, including appreciation of nursing and therapy roles
Research and teaching
  • Understanding of the principles and applications of clinical research
  • Evidence of contribution to effective clinical audit and clinical risk management
  • Experience of undergraduate teaching and postgraduate training
  • Evidence of original research
  • Publication in at least one specialist field related to ENT surgery
Qualifications and clinical experience
  • GMC registration
  • Comprehensive clinical experience in ENT
  • Some personal experience in specialist rhinology surgery; should be able to perform basic ESS and septoplasty without assistance
