Job summary

A regional teaching hospital is seeking a Senior Clinical Fellow in Colorectal Surgery based at the Royal Derby Hospital. The position requires applicants to have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in General Surgery and MRCS certification. Responsibilities include participating in ward rounds, assisting in theatre, and supporting outpatient clinics. Job description
A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.

We have an exciting opportunity to appoint to a Senior Clinical Fellow in Colorectal Surgery within University Hospitals of Derby and Burton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at the Royal Derby Hospital for 5 months commencing from March 2026.

Applicants should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in General Surgery not including Foundation years. Possession of the MRCS is essential. Candidates should be eligible to work in the UK and hold full GMC Registration at the time of application.

Candidates can be between ST3 - ST5 and will be involved in ward rounds, theatre lists, endoscopy, day case lists and outpatient clinics, as well as providing support for the wider team.

This post does not have a National Training Number but will offer a good training experience within Colorectal and General Surgery.

The post will participate in the General Surgery Registrar On-call rota.

This post does not hold educational approval but is ideal for doctors who wish to pursue a career in Colorectal Surgery. This post offers excellent opportunities to learn clinical and practical skills and there are regular surgical teaching rounds.

The appointees will work a 40 hour weekly programme with a mixed job plan. The provisional timetable consists of inpatient and day case elective theatre sessions, emergency operating, outpatient clinics, and daily ward rounds, as well as participating in the emergency registrar rota.
