Senior Clinical Fellow – Anthony Nolan Cell Collection Centre

This post is an exciting opportunity for a doctor with UK experience at specialist trainee level and ideally with experience in Haematology to gain hands‑on experience in clinical trials and stem cell donor care. The postholder will play an active role in research and contribute to patient management in clinical trials, with the opportunity for independent audit, research, and collaboration with the Anthony Nolan medical team.

Main duties of the job

The primary focus will be undertaking donor medical assessments, including a thorough history and examination, and future patients requiring autologous collections. The postholder will review results, assess donor suitability, and discuss this with the Anthony Nolan medical team prior to peripheral blood stem cell collection. Additional duties include supporting the apheresis nursing team during the apheresis procedure and managing any severe or atypical complications.

The postholder will work alongside clinical fellows, an advanced clinical practitioner (ACP), and apheresis nursing leads. As the lead clinical fellow for the Cell Collection Centre they will maintain strong links with the Anthony Nolan Registry medical team (based in London). Specific training in stem cell donor care will be provided, and there will be opportunities to collaborate on research and quality improvement projects with the Anthony Nolan medical team. Meetings attendance and presentations are encouraged and supported for professional development.

Job responsibilities

Clinical

Contributor to donor safety and wellbeing through detailed medical assessments, support of the apheresis nursing team, and management of complications. Work with the R&I Haematology Clinical Lead for mentorship and guidance.

Governance and Audit

Active participation in clinical governance activities, including clinical audit, incident reporting, complaints review, risk management, CPD and evidence‑based practice.

Teaching

Possible role in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, supported by the Trust’s education framework.
