Job summary

A leading NHS Trust in London is seeking a full-time CT3 equivalent anaesthetist. The role includes responsibilities in anaesthesia for elective and emergency surgery, pain management, and teaching in a high-fidelity simulation centre. Job description

A Vacancy at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

This is a full‑time permanent post. The role is CT3 equivalent, with support in completing all key competencies set by the Royal College of Anaesthetists. Additional support with FRCA exam practice is provided through a strong departmental teaching programme. The post holder will also participate in teaching a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, medical students and Allied Health professionals in Croydon’s high‑fidelity simulation centre.

Key Responsibilities

The CT3 equivalent post will offer the following:

  • Access to pre‑operative anaesthetic assessment clinics
  • General anaesthesia with experience of elective and emergency surgery for ASA 1–4 patients
  • Paediatric experience for children aged five and over and experience of TIVA
  • Regional anaesthesia with training in ultrasound‑guided regional techniques
  • Obstetric anaesthesia with on‑call experience in obstetrics, including management of ASA 3 parturients
  • Resuscitation and transfer as part of the medical emergency team and involvement in intra‑hospital transfers
  • Pain management with access to pain management clinics and acute pain ward rounds
  • Intensive care experience, requiring three months in an adult intensive care unit for those trainees with only three months completed at core level

Doctors in these posts will also be allocated named educational supervisors, attend teaching sessions and departmental quality‑improvement meetings, and be assisted in preparing for the Primary or Final FRCA exam. The SLAP (South London Anaesthetic Primary) course, exclusively run at Croydon, has achieved very high pass rates.

The post holders will additionally support the Simulation Centre by working with multidisciplinary teams to develop and deliver teaching across the Trust. Previous Simulation Fellows have progressed to substantive appointments and secured multiple presentations and awards.
