Job description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to support the design and delivery of National Grid substation projects. This is a design-focused role requiring deep technical expertise in substation civil engineering and a strong understanding of National Grid standards and processes.Key Responsibilities: Lead and deliver civil design packages for National Grid substation projects. Ensure designs comply with National Grid specifications, CDM regulations, and relevant British Standards. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical engineers, project managers, and contractors. Review and approve technical drawings, calculations, and documentation. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers. Attend site visits and client meetings as required. Essential Requirements: Proven experience working on National Grid substation projects. Strong background in civil and structural design, particularly for substations. Proficient in relevant design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, STAAD.Pro). In-depth knowledge of National Grid technical standards and procedures. Ability to work independently and manage multiple design packages. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills. Desirable: Chartered Engineer status (CEng or equivalent). Experience with hybrid working and remote collaboration tools. Located within commuting distance of Stafford (preferred but not essential). Working Arrangement: Hybrid working preferred from the Stafford office. Remote candidates with strong National Grid experience will also be considered.
