Job Description
The De Beers Group Business Development Team is responsible for creating value for the De Beers Group and plays a central role in projects across the business, from mining to retail and everything that connects the value chain.
Deliver on the inorganic component of an ambitious plan for growth.
Manage transactions (e.g. acquisitions, disposals, joint‑ventures, corporate venture capital) from origination to execution.
Identify a pipeline of potential investment or partnership opportunities along the diamond value chain.
The Senior Business Development Analyst will support the VP Business Development in driving growth and expansion opportunities for De Beers. Responsible for analysing market trends and identifying potential business opportunities, the Senior Business Development Analyst will also assess the feasibility and viability of new initiatives by conducting financial analysis to evaluate potential investments, and to support the development of business cases and proposals which align with the company's strategic objectives and long‑term growth targets.
- Project management of M&A transactions - rigorous scheduling of meetings, tracking deliverables, holding yourself and others on the team to account for project roadmap navigation, engaging with external advisors (transaction advisors, lawyers)
- Engage with investment target companies, develop tactics, and negotiate terms of transactions.
- Sit as Board observer on non‑group companies.
- Build broad network and collaborate with teams around the business (Strategy, Business Units, Finance, Innovation) to build innovative commercial models and investment cases. Increase influence of Business Development in all commercial thinking of the Group
- Development, evaluation, and analysis of proposals for potential acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and strategic alliances Engage with external advisors (legal counsel, investment banks, other transaction advisors)
- Evaluation of financial and other information from third‑party sources (public and private company)
- Build sophisticated financial models aligned with team guidelines.
- Write exceptional (long‑form) investment proposals for governance bodies and funding approval.
- Prepare presentation material to share analysis. Lead presentation and discussion of investment cases at De Beers ExCo level.
- Collaborate across corporate functions to ensure delivery of projects (legal, tax, corporate finance, treasury, CoSec)
- Advocate for improved ways of working e.g. digital tools to enhance collaboration, prioritisation, focus, organisation.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance or business or technical field - Pr.Eng, ACA, CIMA, ACCA, CFA
- Proven experience in financial, economic or technical data sourcing, manipulation and analysis
- Experience working in an investment decision making / analysis function (e.g. Business Development, Corporate Development, Corporate Finance) or as third‑party advisor.
- Understanding major economic performance indicators of companies’ accounts (e.g. sales, operating costs, EBITDA, Cash Flows, capex, ROCE)
- Ability to transform data into actionable insights.
- Ability to design and work within a project process and roadmap - foundation of the team’s work is project delivery.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, networking, and presentation skills. Must have the credibility, impact, and commercial maturity necessary to present and influence at a DB ExCo level and shareholder InvestCo level.
- Understanding and appreciation for the temporal dimension of financial value
- Advanced Excel modelling and Microsoft Office Suite skills (incl. MS Teams)
- Analytical thinker- capacity to dissect financial and regulatory requirements and understand their implications on operations.
- Commercial mindset : ability to see beyond the raw data and understand value drivers.
