Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and innovative Senior Biomedical Scientist for a fixed term 12 month contract in our newly refurbished Cellular pathology department. The post holder will be expected to work closely with other senior staff across pathology to deliver a high quality service to our users.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in routine specimen dissection and provide advanced technical support as required.
  • Provide supervision and staff management within the department.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of departmental UKAS accreditation.
  • Work on an extended rota between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, with a 1:5 Saturday rotation on a rotational basis; cross-site working between North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust as part of a joint service.
  • Depose for the relevant Lead Scientist as required and participate in regional and national groups to develop guidelines and support pathology provision across the wider NHS.
  • Analyse and process pathology specimens and provide technically accurate results; be intrinsically involved in quality and service development.

  • IBMS Specialist Portfolio and an appropriate higher qualification.
  • In-depth knowledge of Cellular pathology.
Working Arrangements

The department operates an extended working day Monday – Friday between 7am and 6pm, with cross-site working as appropriate. The post is a senior level laboratory role including supervision, training and management to provide a technical service meeting Trust and national standards.

  • DBS clearance: New candidates are required to pay the cost of the DBS certificate via salary deduction from the first month’s pay; the check will be undertaken during pre-employment screening.
  • Probation: A 6 month probationary period applies to new employees; internal applicants and those appointed to fixed-term appointments of less than 6 months are exempt from probation unless otherwise specified.
  • Employment references: References covering the last three years of employment are required; ensure referee emails are on the application.
