Job description

We are currently working with an established Space company based in Oxford. As the team expands and they begin new projects, they are looking to bring in more and more people to join them in their mission, one of which being a Senior Antenna Engineer.

The main objective of this role is to develop and deploy RF antenna products that cater to the needs of customers, with a particular focus on the defence and security market. The scope includes various applications, such as Synthetic Aperture Radar, SIGINT, secure satellite communications, IoT, and data relay.

Due to the sensitive nature of the projects, the successful candidate must be eligible for SC clearance, and meet other specific criteria, including having been a resident in the UK for at least five years.

In this position as a Senior Antenna Engineer you can expect to collaborate with the Business Development team by offering technical expertise to prepare technical proposals based on experience gained from defence and security projects. Whilst also overseeing the entire RF deployable antenna engineering process for multiple projects, from design and analysis to testing and delivery of Reflector, Filar, and Patch Array Antennas, including feed and Balun, to meet customer requirements. You can also expect to be engaging in effective negotiation and interpretation of technical issues, design solutions, and trade-offs with customers, fostering strong relationships built on trust and expertise.

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience as a Senior Antenna Engineer :

  • Hold an upper second or higher Bachelor's, master’s degree, or equivalent in Physics, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related subject.
  • Possess a sound understanding of the defence and military domain, including decision-making processes and the significance of various missions.
  • Exhibit excellent knowledge of RF and Antenna design theory, including topics like PIM (Passive Intermodulation) and Multifactor effects.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in using RF software packages such as CST Microwave, HFSS (High-Frequency Structure Simulator), and GRASP.
  • Showcase practical experience with RF test equipment, including vector network analysers.
  • Demonstrate creative prowess in generating robust design solutions that align with customer technical requirements and the ability to critique and refine one's own designs.
  • Display experience in managing technical, packaging, and commercial trade-offs at the antenna and spacecraft levels.
  • Possess a good understanding of the mechanical and thermal properties of engineering materials and their practical implementation.
  • Showcase strong analytical skills and a pragmatic, logical approach to problem-solving, with the ability to devise straightforward solutions to complex problems.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and relationship-building skills, capable of effectively conveying RF concepts and solutions to individuals with limited RF knowledge.
  • Quick learner who is comfortable adapting to new RF concepts and technologies.
  • Excellent planning and organisationalskills, with a track record of meeting project deadlines.
