Job description

We are looking for an experienced (QTS not essential) SEND Teacher with a PMLD interest or background.

This is a Part Time Long Term 2 day per week (Thursday & Friday) vacancy at an Ofsted Outstanding SEND School in Harrow.

  • Pupils have Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and a range of needs including severe and profound learning difficulties, autism spectrum conditions and sensory impairments.

SEND Teacher Educational approach:

  • Personalized curriculum focused on each student’s strengths and individual outcomes.
  • Support from specialist staff including adapted teaching strategies and therapeutic services.

Who the school supports:

The school primarily supports young people who have significant learning difficulties or disabilities that cannot be met through mainstream schooling, often with EHCPs specifying needs such as:

  • Profound & multiple learning difficulties (PMLD)
  • Severe learning difficulties (SLD)
  • Autism (ASD)
  • Multi-sensory impairments including visual or hearing impairments
  • Because of smaller class🤣 sizes, specialist staff, and individualized approaches, it’s designed to provide a supportive environment where pupils can develop communication, independence and life skills alongside academic learning.

Some examples of the school's excellent and unique resources:

  • Hydro Therapy
  • Sensory Rooms & Sensory Circuits
  • Beautiful outdoor spaces and specialised equipment

Our ideal (although imagematically not essential) SEND Teacher candidate will have:

  • Strong understanding of complex needs

Including ASD, SLD, PMLD, sensory processing differences, communication disorders and physical disabilities — and how theseote impact learning, behaviour and engagement.

  • Expert in alternative communication

Confidence using PECS, Makaton, AAC devices, symbol-supported learning and visual timetables to ensure every pupil has a voice.

  • Therapeutic-informed practice

Ability to embed OT, SALT and physio strategies into everyday teaching rather than seeing therapy as separate from learning.

  • Enhanced DBS on Update Service (we can process one if necessary)
  • Availability as soon as possible or with minimum notice period

The rate of pay for this position starts at £170 + per day via PAYE and can vary based on experience (so you earn your full rate, we take on extra NI costs for you so you do not have to pay NI) but if you utilize an Umbrella company, we are also happy to accommodate this.

If you are a SEND Teacher and would like more information or to be considered about this position, please click Apply or reach out to Branden at TARA EDUCATION on 07484 520 681. Appropriate applications will be responded to within 48 hours.
