Job summary

A specialist education provider is seeking SEND Specialist Tutors in Bideford to deliver personalized lessons for young people with special educational needs (SEND). You will create tailored 1:1 lessons to help re-engage students and bridge educational gaps. Ideal candidates should possess QTS or equivalent and have UK classroom teaching experience. The role offers flexible hours and competitive pay starting at £25 per hour. Additional training in PECS/Makaton is preferred but not essential.

SEND Specialist Tutor Job – Bideford

Overview

Prospero Teaching is looking for SEND Specialist Tutors to deliver bespoke tuition packages on a 1:1 basis to young people with SEND that cannot currently access mainstream education.

Opportunity

We are looking for inspirational tutors around Bideford to support children and young people with SEND. Many children with SEND have been disengaged with their learning. We support pupils that have struggled to stay in the classroom, who feel too anxious to go to school or whose needs aren't sufficiently supported at school.

Role Responsibilities

• Create, plan and deliver 1:1 tailored lessons to bridge gaps in pupil’s education and boost attainment levels.
• Support and re‑engage pupils in their learning, offer structure back into their daily routine, continue their educational development and return to school.
• Submit weekly reports to monitor pupil progression.

Contract / Position Details

• Location – Various locations across Bideford
• Position – SEND Specialist Tutor
• Type of work – Contract (temporary, part‑time – 6 – 15 hours per week, per student)
• Start date – ASAP
• Duration – Until the pupil is able to reintegrate into a mainstream/special school
• Minimum rate of pay – £25+ per hour (negotiable)
• Working hours – Available during school hours, five days a week; can be differentiated to accommodate family convenience.

Experience, Training and Qualifications

• QTS or equivalent
• UK classroom teaching experience
• Preferred: PECS/Makaton training (not essential)
• Creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
• Experience working with challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils

• Right to work in the UK
• Enhanced child‑barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service, or willingness to process a new application
