Overview

Location: Nelson
Salary: 13.50- 14 an hour (dependent on experience and qualifications)
Hours: Flexible working hours

About Us

We are currently recruiting for a well-established private nursery in Nelson with a strong commitment to inclusive early years education. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a dedicated and experienced Early Years SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) to join our team.

This is a key role for a motivated practitioner who is passionate about supporting children with additional needs and helping staff deliver inclusive, high-quality learning opportunities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the identification, planning, and support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)

  • Develop and review Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and targeted support strategies

  • Work closely with parents, carers, external professionals, and agencies to ensure coordinated care and early intervention

  • Guide and support colleagues in implementing inclusive practices

  • Monitor children’s progress and ensure accurate documentation and records are maintained

  • Contribute to and deliver staff training related to SEND and inclusion

  • Ensure compliance with current SEND legislation and the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Essential Requirements
  • Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Childcare/Early Years

  • Substantial experience supporting children with SEND in an early years setting

  • Strong working knowledge of:

    • Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs)

    • Portage and other early intervention strategies

    • The SEND Code of Practice

  • Experience liaising with external professionals (e.g. health visitors, speech and language therapists, educational psychologists)

  • Excellent communication, organisation, and record-keeping skills

  • Ability to mentor and support a team in inclusive, child-centred practice

Desirable
  • SENCO qualification or training (or willingness to undertake it)
