SEN Teaching Assistant (Full-Time) - St Albans
Aspire People
£85 - £100 a day
Full-time | Temporary to Permanent Opportunities
Hours: 8:30am - 15:30pm, term time only.
Start: September 2025

Job Summary
Aspire People is currently recruiting for two passionate and experienced SEN Teaching Assistants to join special educational needs (SEN) schools in St Albans. These full-time roles offer the opportunity to support pupils with a range of complex learning difficulties, including autism spectrum disorder (ASC), ADHD, and profound and multiple learning difficulties (PMLD).

Key Responsibilities:

Provide one-to-one support or assist with small group interventions for students with complex needs, including ASC, ADHD, and PMLD

Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individualised education plans (IEPs) and EHCP targets

Support pupils with personal care needs (if required), ensuring their dignity and safety at all times

Help students to develop social, emotional, and academic skills through tailored support strategies

Provide guidance in managing behavioural challenges in a calm, consistent, and positive manner

Support the delivery of sensory, therapeutic, or life skills activities

Maintain accurate records of pupil progress, liaising with class teachers and the SEN team regularly

Requirements:

Experience working with children or young people with special educational needs in an SEN school or similar environment (essential)

Strong understanding of autism, ADHD, and SEMH needs, with an ability to tailor support to individual students

Calm, patient, and adaptable approach to working with children with complex needs

Confidence in supporting students with personal care needs (where required)

A proactive approach to working within a multidisciplinary team, including teachers, therapists, and support staff

Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)

Availability for full-time work, Monday to Friday (8:30am - 3:30pm)

Desirable:

Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent)

Experience with Makaton, PECs, or other alternative communication methods

Previous work in specialist settings (e.g., SEN schools, specialist provisions, etc.)

Local to Hemel Hempstead or St Albans, or able to reliably commute
