Daily Rate: £89‑£100

Are you passionate about supporting young people who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges? Teaching Personnel is seeking compassionate, resilient, and proactive individuals to join our next cohort of Unqualified Postgraduate Teaching Assistants. In this role, you will work closely with pupils in Bath‑based SEMH provisions, specialist settings, and inclusive mainstream schools that support students with a wide range of additional needs.

This is a meaningful opportunity to begin or develop a career in education, making a genuine difference to pupils aged 5‑16 who may experience:

  • Social, emotional and mental health needs
  • Behavioural or trauma‑related challenges
  • Communication and interaction difficulties
  • Physical or medical needs that impact learning

A calm, empathetic and trauma‑informed approach is essential, as you'll be helping young people build confidence, emotional regulation, and positive relationships.

Role Overview

Start date: ASAP

Hours: 8:30am – 3:30pm (may vary by school)

Schedule: Monday to Friday (term‑time only)

Location: Bath

Potential for permanent employment for the right candidate.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 and small‑group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Build safe, trusting relationships with students through consistency and positive reinforcement.
  • Assist in delivering personalised, engaging activities that support emotional regulation and learning.
  • Implement strategies recommended in EHCPs and behaviour support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals.
  • Promote a calm, inclusive and predictable learning environment.
  • Model positive behaviour and support pupils during both classroom and unstructured times (e.g. breaks, transitions).

  • Passionate about supporting young people with SEMH needs.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children or young people (desirable but not essential).
  • Background in education, youth work, care, mental health, or sports coaching is highly valued.
  • Flexible, patient, and adaptable to meet individual student needs.
  • A reflective mindset and willingness to learn new approaches such as trauma‑informed practice, Team Teach, and restorative strategies.
