Job description

Are you an experienced and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding 1:1 support role in a primary school?

Flourish Education are working in partnership with a welcoming Primary School in Dudley, who are seeking to appoint a qualified 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a non‑verbal child in Year 5, starting as soon as possible until the end of the academic year.

This SEN Teaching Assistant position is a full‑time, classroom‑based role, providing dedicated 1:1 support to help the pupil access learning, develop communication skills, and engage positively within the school environment. You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to create a safe, structured, and nurturing learning experience.

The child is non‑verbal and requires consistent, patient, and individualised support to aid communication, emotional regulation, and participation in classroom activities. This role is ideal for someone with previous SEN experience who is calm, resilient, and passionate about supporting children with additional needs.

Required Skills and Experience for this SEN Teaching Assistant role:
  • Hold a relevant Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent).
  • Previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs within a Primary or SEN setting.
  • Experience supporting non‑verbal pupils and implementing communication strategies (e.g. visual supports, PECS, or similar).
  • A good understanding of the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with pupils and staff.
  • A patient, nurturing, and proactive approach to behaviour and learning support.
  • A DBS on the Update Service or issued within the last 12 months.
  • A minimum of two excellent references.
Working for Flourish Education as a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will receive:
  • Competitive salary – £17,339.40 to £19,500 per annum, based on working 5 days a week for a full school year.

  • KCSIE‑compliant safeguarding and Prevent Duty training, including modules on legislation, FGM, and abuse.
