Job summary

A leading educational provider is seeking a dedicated SEN Teacher focused on supporting students with autism and SEMH needs in Sunderland. In this role, you will deliver tailored learning programmes and work with small classes to help students re-engage with education. The ideal candidate will have experience in special educational needs and employ nurturing approaches to build strong relationships with pupils. This is a full-time position with a pay range of £140–£220 per day.

Job description
SEN Teacher – Autism and SEMH Focus

Location: Sunderland Pay: £140–£220 per day Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term

This SEN Teacher role supports pupils with autism and social, emotional and mental health needs in a specialist learning environment.

You’ll deliver personalised learning programmes, helping pupils re‑engage with education and build confidence at their own pace.

Responsibilities
  • Teaching small classes with tailored curricula
  • Adapting lessons to meet individual needs
  • Supporting emotional wellbeing and behaviour positively
  • Working collaboratively with TAs and pastoral staff
  • Monitoring progress and celebrating achievements
Ideal for teachers who
  • Have SEN or alternative provision experience
  • Use trauma‑informed and nurturing approaches
  • Can build strong, trusting relationships
  • Remain calm in challenging situations

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
