Job description
SEN Learning Support Assistant

Westminster

Full Time

£100+ per day

Our SEN department

The SEND team is led by the Assistant Vice Principal Inclusion and is made up of Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), the SENDCo and the Speech and Language Therapist (SaLT). As an LSA your role is both important and rewarding, providing essential support for staff and students within the Academy. The team meets weekly to discuss a range of strategies to further support students with SEND and the individual learner needs of every student, whilst sharing best practices and experiences to enrich the learning experience.

The ideal candidate
  • Work closely with class teachers to plan and support the students’ learning, including social skills, life and independent skills and personal development.
  • Be able to manage behaviour and pastoral related concerns and report them to the relevant middle leaders
  • Contribute to the inclusive ethos of the Academy, supporting the positive image of the school in the local and wider community
  • Share our belief that everyone can benefit from and has an entitlement to high quality educational opportunities
Overall Responsibilities
  • To support SEN pupils and class teachers
  • To have a robust understanding of all students with EHCPs
  • To have good communication with parents, engaging with parents by giving feedback about students
  • To liaise with external agencies and local authority to provide better support and interventions for students
  • To develop an understanding of special educational needs
  • To take into account the student’s special needs and to ensure their access to the lesson and its content through providing appropriate clarification, explanations, resources and materials
  • To build and maintain successful relationships with the student, treat them with respect and consideration
  • To help promote independent learning by reinforcement learning, developing study and organisational skills, building student’s confidence and enhancing self-esteem, and supporting students to record their work in an appropriate way.
  • To assist students with their physical / personal care / medical needs
  • To monitor the social, emotional and physical wellbeing of the student
  • To support students with all educational needs, including reading, task completion.
Education and Qualifications
  • General level of literacy and numeracy skills
  • NVQ qualification or similar appropriate at level 3
Professional Knowledge
  • Good level of ICT
  • Outstanding verbal and non-verbal communication skills
  • Ability of writing reports for different audiences
