Overview

About the Role: We are currently seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN 1:1 Teaching Assistant to join a well-established Special Educational Needs (SEN) School in Birmingham. This is a full-time, long-term position with an immediate start, supporting a student in Key Stage 3 (Years 7–9) on a 1:1 basis. The role involves working closely with a student who requires tailored support due to their individual learning needs. You will also be supporting other students in the classroom where appropriate, helping to create an inclusive, nurturing, and engaging learning environment.

Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support to a student with special educational needs in KS3 (Year 7–9)
  • Work collaboratively with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individualised education plans (IEPs)
  • Support the student with their academic, emotional, and social development
  • Encourage positive behaviour and promote engagement in classroom activities
  • Adapt learning materials and tasks to meet the student's needs
  • Monitor and record progress, reporting regularly to teaching staff and parents
  • Assist with classroom organisation and general support where necessary
Requirements
  • Experience working with children or young people with SEN (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties, SEMH)
  • Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with students
  • Calm, patient, and resilient with a proactive and flexible approach
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant TA qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning)
  • Team Teach or other de-escalation training (not essential but beneficial)
  • Prior experience working in a special school or SEN unit
