Job Title: 1:1 Support Assistant (SEN School) - Moseley

Location: Moseley, Birmingham

Contract Type: Full-time

The Role

As a 1:1 Support Assistant, you will be working closely with a child who displays aggressive behaviours. This role is essential in ensuring the child's social, emotional, and educational development while maintaining a safe and supportive classroom environment. You will play a crucial part in supporting their individual learning needs, de-escalating challenging behaviours, and promoting positive interactions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide tailored 1:1 support to a child with behavioural challenges, ensuring their emotional and physical well-being.
  • Support the child in managing aggressive behaviours through de-escalation techniques, positive reinforcement, and personalised strategies.
  • Work alongside teachers and other staff to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that cater to the child's specific needs.
  • Encourage the child's engagement in classroom activities and facilitate their learning in a calm, supportive manner.
  • Foster positive relationships with the child, helping to build trust and increase their confidence.
  • Monitor and document the child's progress, behaviour, and any incidents, providing regular feedback to the SENCo and teaching staff.
  • Work collaboratively with parents and external professionals to ensure consistent support for the child both at school and at home.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Previous experience working in a SEN setting or with children displaying challenging behaviour is highly desirable.
  • A calm, patient, and empathetic approach to working with children who may display aggressive or disruptive behaviour.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
  • Experience with de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies.
  • A passion for making a positive difference in the lives of children with additional needs.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, child development, or support work (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, Behaviour Management Training) are advantageous but not essential.
  • Flexibility and a proactive attitude to the evolving needs of the child and the school.
