Job description

SEMH Tutor
Pay starting from GBP25 per hour

We are looking for an experienced, passionate and patient Tutor, who is confident in teaching Maths & English. In this role, you must be able to create, plan and deliver 1:1 tailored lessons as a means of alternate education. We are partnered with an SEMH school within Northumberland to help support students who are unable to engage with their provision. This may be due to SEND, SEMH or Emotional‑Based School Non‑Attendance (EBSNA).

One of your aims will be to support and re‑engage a pupil in their learning, offer structure back into their daily routine, continue their educational development and aid their return to school. Patience is a key attribute as young people may have a prolonged period out of education.

While not necessary, a valid UK Drivers Licence is desired, as well as a willingness to travel.

The tuition replaces school for these young people, with different commissioned hours per young person, taking place during school hours. Prospero will work with you closely to monitor the progression with each pupil by asking you to submit weekly reports. We will match you with students to fulfil the number of hours you are looking for, accommodating for either full or part‑time hours.

Information about the role
  • Ongoing placement, or until the young person returns to school
  • Hours dependent on the young person's needs
  • GBP25 - GBP30 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Desired candidate will have
  • Experience tutoring Maths and English on a 1:1 or small group basis
  • QTS is desirable but not essential
  • Be creative, patient and willing to think outside of the box
  • Have experience working with challenging behaviour and disengaged pupils
What we need from you
  • Hold a right to work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to complete a new application
  • Provide references to cover the last two years of employment
  • The ability to commit to the young person and work for the duration of the placement

If you have any questions, or would like some more information, please apply online.
