Qualifications

  • An undergraduate degree in any relevant discipline, e.g. Psychology, Maths, English, Social Care (2:2 or above).
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).

SEMH Teaching Assistant-M7

Smile Education is looking for a SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students who have PMLD, Autism (ASE) by providing high-quality SEMH interventions in the Salford area. The area has great tram links to the city and other areas of Manchester, making the commute very accessible. This is an excellent opportunity for candidates looking to gain experience in the education sector, whether you are a recent graduate, an aspiring teacher, or an experienced SEMH Teaching Assistant.

Responsibilities
  • Work with individual students and small groups to help them manage emotions and build social skills.
  • Work closely with teachers, parents, and external partners (like therapists).
  • Implement specific strategies and support plans to meet individual needs outside the classroom environment.
  • Assist with delivering literacy and numeracy programs and other learning activities, adapting materials to meet individual student needs.
  • Ensure safeguarding procedures are always followed.
Typical Day
  • Planning and delivering interventions for students accessing additional SEMH support.
  • Attend meetings to discuss student progress including inclusion meetings.
  • Use an appropriate range of observation, assessment and monitoring to identify strategies to support the SEMH students.
  • Provide feedback to students and staff in relation to strategies of differentiation, support, progress and achievement.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • An undergraduate degree in any relevant discipline, e.g. Psychology, Maths, English, Social Care (2:2 or above).
  • A willingness to adapt and be flexible in duties and approaches.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Strong communication and behaviour‑management skills.
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English & Maths.
  • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply).
