Job description

We are working on behalf of a small, specialist secondary school in Woking, Surrey to recruit a dedicated and passionate English Teacher. This is an excellent opportunity for an educator who is motivated by making a genuine difference in the lives of young people who require a more personalised and therapeutic approach to education.

Our client is an independent specialist provision supporting pupils aged 11-17 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and associated needs such as autism and ADHD. The school offers a child-centred, trauma-informed and nurturing environment, with small class sizes and a strong focus on individual progress, wellbeing and re-engagement with learning.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging and differentiated English lessons across Key Stage 3, Entry Level, Functional Skills and GCSE, tailored to individual learner needs
  • Inspire pupils by making English accessible, relevant and meaningful
  • Build positive, trusting relationships to support both academic and emotional development
  • Work closely with support staff and a wider multi-disciplinary team
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole‑school initiatives
  • Maintain high expectations around behaviour, progress and personal development
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Has strong subject knowledge and the ability to adapt teaching for diverse learners
  • Is confident supporting pupils with SEMH and complex needs (experience preferred but not essential)
  • Demonstrates excellent classroom management and emotional intelligence
  • Is patient, resilient and passionate about inclusive education
  • Holds, or is working towards, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS/QTLS preferred)
