Security Services Group (SSG) is the MOD’s Technical Authority for electronic and physical security, providing expert advice, design, installation and maintenance of security systems across the Government. SSG supports UK homeland security and resilience through project management, compliance reviews, and in‑house security solutions.
Position Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Network and Senior Integrations Manager to join SSG’s Development section. The role reports directly to the SSG Production, Development and Support (PDS) Team Leader and focuses on designing, implementing and securing networking solutions, cyber assurance, and integration of third‑party manufacturers.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Development section to realise technical vision.
- Design, support and implement secure networking solutions across the SSG estate in line with NCSC guidelines.
- Oversee fibre transmission infrastructure and manage SFP/SFP+ modules.
- Handle IP addressing and subnetting for IPv4 and IPv6.
- Configure, monitor and troubleshoot network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, SNMP, VPN, MPLS, etc.
- Deploy and manage SDN technologies and network automation tools.
- Maintain professional expertise with appropriate networking certifications.
- Ensure work quality and adherence to engineering procedures and policies.
- Apply knowledge of UK, European and British Government security standards, QA and H&S policies.
- Manage overtime, detached duty visits, travel and on‑call rota as required.
- Monitor and analyse secure networks, conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
- Implement and maintain security controls in alignment with NIST, MOD JSP 440, and defence standards.
- Respond to and investigate cyber incidents, ensuring containment and remediation.
- Support accreditation and certification processes for secure systems.
- Develop and enforce security policies, procedures and operational guidelines for classified environments.
- Provide cyber awareness and security training to personnel handling sensitive information.
Qualifications & Experience
- CEng or IEng membership of a relevant professional body (BCS, IET or equivalent).
- Experience in Cyber Security, preferably at a CCSP knowledge level.
- Directing and managing projects aligned with the Digital Switchover 2027 directive.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- BTEC National or Higher National Certificate/Diploma or higher in computer science or relevant subject.
- Awareness of IDS systems and applications.
- Competency using technical drawing packages.
- Working knowledge of British, European and UK Government Standards relating to Security, QA and H&S policies.
Desirable Skills, Experience, Qualifications, Memberships & Licences
- Experience with cloud environments (Azure – Transit Gateway, Azure Firewall).
- Knowledge of IPC610 standards.
- Experience with electronic circuit schematic and PCB layout design.
- Software design and development using C language.
- Awareness of Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) and Automatic Access Control Systems (AACS).
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity principles, cryptography, and secure system design.
- Experience with defence or government security frameworks and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with secure network architectures, intrusion detection systems, and SIEM tools.
- Ability to work in high‑security environments and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Relevant certifications (CISSP, CISM, CompTIA Security+).
