Job description
Overview

Are you a Qualified Secondary Teacher (QTS) or ECT Secondary Focused Teacher?

Do you excel at engaging young learners (aged 11-16/19) particularly those facing complex Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges, helping them to re-engage with education and unlock their potential?

Randstad Education is actively partnering with specialist Alternative Provisions, PRU's and SEMH schools in the Greater Manchester and Lancashire areas to recruit dedicated Secondary Teachers for a long-term, full-time, term-time only position starting ASAP, with the potential for a permanent role for the right candidate.

Why This Role?
  • Make a profound, significant difference in the lives of vulnerable young people, helping them to master communication, re-engage with learning, and build vital life skills.
  • Celebrate student successes in subjects like English, Maths, Music, IT and witness their holistic development firsthand.
  • Enjoy very competitive rates of pay, fully compliant under AWR (2011), with no hidden deductions.
  • Work with a dedicated consultant providing honest, positive, and trustworthy guidance to match you with the right school.
  • Access free accredited career and professional development training to continuously enhance your expertise in SEMH and KS3&4 education.
  • Benefit from a full-time, term-time only schedule.
As an SEMH Secondary Teacher, you will
  • Design and deliver highly tailored lessons and interventions, meticulously following each pupil's Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) and behaviour management plans to address complex social, emotional, and mental health needs.
  • Proactively foster crucial literacy skills, supporting reading comprehension, written expression, and oral communication, essential for academic and life success.
  • Expertly respond to challenging behaviours with advanced de-escalation strategies and proactively teach pupils emotional regulation techniques and positive coping mechanisms to ensure a calm and safe learning environment.
  • Re-ignite pupils curiosity and passion for Education through creative, flexible, and highly engaging teaching approaches that account for past educational disruption and diverse learning styles.
  • Work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team (e.g., therapists, social workers, support staff) and families to deliver comprehensive pastoral care and develop vital life skills alongside academic progress in Education.
  • Uphold the highest standards of safeguarding and child protection, given the inherent vulnerability of many pupils in PRU and SEMH settings.
What You\'ll Bring
  • Essential to have PCGE UK Qualification
  • Possessing patience, understanding non-linear progress and challenging behaviours as communication, remaining calm, and focusing on the child\'s needs.
  • Approaching children with unconditional positive regard, understanding behaviours stem from trauma or unmet needs, and building trust.
  • Expert in proactive behaviour management, recognising triggers, implementing plans, and utilise effective de-escalation skills.
  • Highly adaptable, adjusting teaching methods, resources, and the learning environment to meet diverse needs, and innovating to make English accessible and engaging.
  • Minimum 6 months recent Teaching experience in a UK school (referenced)
  • Must have an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to obtain).

At Randstad Education, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional support to our educators. With extensive connections in the Greater Manchester and Lancashire areas, we offer a range of short-term, long-term, and permanent opportunities tailored to your preferences. All candidates will undergo Randstad Education's child protection and UK eligibility checks.
