Job description
Overview

Location: Cardinal Hume Catholic School, Old Durham Road, Gateshead, NE9 6RZ

Grade: MPS/UPS + TLR 2A

Hours: Full Time, Permanent

Our values are summed up in our school motto: ‘Fide, Labore, Caritate’, and all members of our school community live out these values – faith, hard work, and kindness – every day, making Cardinal Hume a very special community to work in for our staff, and to be educated in for our students.

Graded ‘Outstanding’ in all areas in May 2024 by Ofsted, and in 2019 by the Diocese of Hexham and Newcastle, Cardinal Hume Catholic School is a high-performing, 11-18 academy which serves the East of Gateshead. We are proud to be part of the Bishop Wilkinson Catholic Education Trust, the largest Catholic Education Trust in the North-East of England, which will have 48 schools. Thus, there are a number of opportunities for CPD and collaborative work. Furthermore, a comprehensive and bespoke support and induction programme is provided for all new staff.

Responsibilities
  • We wish to appoint a dynamic, well qualified, and highly effective teacher to the position of Second in Department. This is a thriving area of our curriculum, offering a range of popular courses at Key Stages 4 and 5. These are:
  • Health and Social Care (Key Stages 4 and 5)
  • Psychology (Key Stage 5)
  • Sociology (Key Stage 5)
  • Criminology (Key Stage 5)
  • Early Years Child Development (Key Stage 5)

This is an excellent opportunity for an aspiring curriculum leader to help shape the future direction of the department.

  • We are looking for someone who can support the leadership of this group of subjects, taking a lead on at least one course. The current post-holder is the lead for A Level Psychology. The successful applicant will have teaching responsibility in Health & Social Care and Psychology on appointment, but we would like to hear from you if your specialism is suited to the other subjects outlined above.
  • The successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop within an established and supportive team of colleagues and will have the benefit of our modern building and facilities.
