School Standards Board - Community Member (Governor)

Fixed‑term contract of 4 years, salary TBC, based in Redhill, Surrey. Start date as soon as possible.

About the role

We are looking for committed individuals from the local community, and from all walks of life and backgrounds, to join the Schools Standards Board at Salfords Primary School. As an SSB member, you will contribute to and monitor the school’s development plan, which focuses on the key improvement priorities for the school. SSBs are the Trust Board’s interface with parents, staff and the community. You will gather and respond to feedback from parents and staff, develop and maintain community links, and provide regular feedback to the Trust Board on the performance of the school and stakeholder sentiment, thereby influencing the overall strategy of the Trust.

Key responsibilities
  • Contribute to the school’s development plan and report on its progress.
  • Serve as the Trust Board’s interface with parents, staff and the community.
  • Gather and respond to feedback from parents and staff.
  • Develop and maintain community links for the school.
  • Provide regular feedback to the Trust Board on school performance and stakeholder views.
  • Attend SSB training and undertake relevant school visits.
  • Meet formally once per half‑term (six meetings across the academic year) and follow an annual work plan.

  • Early Years experience (key focus area for the school).
  • Strategic thinking and ability to contribute to school priorities.
  • Excellent listening, reflection and openness to diverse viewpoints.
  • Ability to establish clear expectations for school leaders.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and statistics.
  • Confidence to ask questions and challenge school leaders appropriately.
Time Commitment and Benefits

The role is voluntary, but you may claim travel expenses if required. Training is provided and you need not have education experience.
