Overview

Design & Technology Technician role in Manchester (M9). This is a hands-on workshop position supporting students in practical skills development. Location: Manchester (M9). Start Date: September 2025. Contract: Full-Time.

About the Design & Technology Technician Role: Can you maintain tools, machinery, and equipment to keep lessons safe, efficient, and engaging? As a D&T Technician, you’ll support staff and students across woodwork, resistant materials, CAD/CAM, and product design. You’ll ensure a well-organised, safe, and inspiring learning environment where students can thrive.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and maintain tools, machines, and materials for lessons
  • Support staff and students in-class, ensuring safe, effective workshop practice
  • Carry out safety checks and minor equipment repairs
  • Manage stock, resources, and workshop organisation
  • Assist with risk assessments and ensure full compliance with health & safety standards
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience as a D&T Technician, Workshop Technician, or in carpentry, joinery, fabrication, or engineering
  • Practical experience handling resistant materials such as wood, metal, or plastics
  • Strong practical skills and confidence with hand tools and machinery
  • Awareness of, or experience with, workshop health & safety procedures (PUWER, COSHH, PPE)
  • Organised, proactive, and flexible with a “can-do” attitude
  • Relevant qualifications or training in design/technology desirable
  • Enhanced DBS check, or willingness to obtain one
