School Caretaker – Secondary School

Location: Birmingham, B1
Salary: £13.75 – £17 per hour (depending on experience)
Start: ASAP
Contract: Full-time / Long-term

Are you practical, reliable, and ready to play a key role in keeping a school safe and welcoming? We’re looking for a School Caretaker to join a friendly and supportive school community, ensuring the site runs smoothly day to day.

What you’ll be doing:
  • Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and DIY around the school site

  • Ensuring the school grounds and buildings are safe, clean, and secure

  • Opening and locking up the school each day, setting alarms, and monitoring site security

  • Managing cleaning staff and contractors where required

  • Supporting with health & safety checks, fire drills, and compliance records

  • Helping with setting up classrooms, halls, and facilities for events

What we’re looking for:
  • Previous experience in caretaking, site management, or a maintenance role

  • Practical DIY and repair skills (plumbing, electrics, carpentry – desirable but not essential)

  • A reliable, organised, and proactive attitude

  • Awareness of health & safety and safeguarding in schools

  • A team player who takes pride in their work and the school environment

  • YOU MUST HAVE AN ENHANCED DBS ON THE UPDATE SERVICE
