Sales Business Development Director Transmission (UK)

United Kingdom | Full-time | Senior Leadership

We are seeking a highly experienced Commercial Director Transmission (UK) to lead market development, strategic sales, and customer engagement across the UK transmission sector. This senior leadership role requires deep industry knowledge, strong commercial acumen, and proven success in securing large-scale transmission projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute the market and sales strategy for the UK region, with focus on Transmission Owners (NGET, SSEN, SPEN), EPC contractors, and engineering consultancies.
  • Drive adoption and winning of CICA cross-arms, conductors, fittings, and towers in both new-build and refurbishment projects.
  • Build and maintain senior-level relationships with Transmission Owners, Ofgem, EPCs, consultancies, and advisors to enhance acceptance of solutions.
  • Lead bidding, negotiations, and contract execution, ensuring profitability and delivery alignment.
  • Gather market and competitor intelligence to support pricing strategies and value-selling propositions.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project delivery teams to ensure customer needs are translated into compliant, competitive project solutions.
Experience & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred); MBA desirable.
  • Over 10 years of senior commercial, business development, or sales leadership experience in the UK transmission market.
  • Proven success in direct engagement with NGET, SSEN, SPEN, EPCs, and other key stakeholders.
  • Track record of winning and delivering large-scale transmission projects (£50m+ individual order value).
  • Strong knowledge of Ofgem regulatory framework, TO approval processes, and UK transmission market rules.
  • Prior roles such as Sales Director, Commercial Director, or Business Development Director in transmission equipment manufacturing, EPC, consultancy, or utilities.
  • Experience introducing new technologies or materials into the UK transmission market preferred.
  • At least 2 years of Key Account Management experience in T&D Insulators, EPCs, OEMs, or tower/conductor manufacturing.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strategic sales account management and proven T&D business development expertise.
  • Strong customer relationship and senior-level negotiation skills.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and stakeholder engagement.
  • Solid understanding of technical design requirements, contractual frameworks (NEC3/NEC4), and procurement/commercial strategies.
  • Knowledge of TO investment cases, funding mechanisms, and transmission infrastructure planning processes.
  • Resilient, results-oriented leader with the ability to drive success in a changing regulatory and commercial environment.
