The Barbour story began in 1894 in South Shields in the North East of England. Founder John Barbour began supplying oilskins and other garments to protect the growing community of sailors, fishermen and dockers. Still family owned and now fifth generation, Barbour HQ remains in South Shields. Under the leadership of Chairman Dame Margaret Barbour, Barbour has grown into a lifestyle brand sold in over 55 countries worldwide including Europe, the US and Asia offering a wardrobe of stylish functional clothing, footwear and accessories inspired by the unique values of the British countryside. The iconic Barbour Bedale and Barbour Beaufort wax jackets continue to be made by hand in the factory in South Shields. In 2020, Barbour launched Wax for Life, an overarching name for all of Barbour's wax services designed to encourage customers to extend the life of their wax garments. Wax for Life includes re-waxing and repairs (first introduced in 1921) and Barbour Re-Loved an upcycling circularity initiative. Each year over 70,000 wax garments are sent back to Barbour globally to be repaired, rewaxed or altered.

Position Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for Sales Assistants to join our Leeds Store on a part time permanent contract, working weekends only. You will be reliable and hardworking and have a passion for delivering excellent levels of customer service. The ideal candidate will be confident developing selling opportunities and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. You will act as a brand ambassador and will be responsible for representing the Barbour brand in a positive and professional manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contribute positively towards the sales/ profitability budgets for the store through achieving personal sales targets.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service at all times.
  • Be a brand ambassador promoting the brand within the locality.
  • Maintain shop floor standards both front and back of house.
  • Undertake and apply accurate Company administration procedures.
  • Comply with Company security procedures.
  • Actively support store management procedures, in line with Company policy.
  • Ensure all Health & Safety regulations and Company procedures are adhered.
  • Accurately process transactions through the till system.
  • Undertake any other reasonable activity, as may be required by senior management.
Skills and Experience
  • Excellent customer care and advanced selling skills.
  • Understanding of requirements to work in a target orientated environment
  • Acting with a professional and respectful manner to all individuals.
  • Understanding current market trends in relation to clothing/ fashion.
  • Effective time management skills for organising self appropriately.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to build strong relationships internally at all business levels.
  • Able to analyse basic internal data and could translate into actions.
  • Understanding and ability to implement visual merchandising standards.
  • Information Technology skills including experience of EPOS systems, MS Outlook.
  • Flexibility with working hours is essential.
