Role Overview

The safety manager's role is to lead and manage all aspects of health, safety, security, and environmental compliance across multiple MARCUS projects within an operational data centre environment. The Health & Safety Manager will ensure adherence to client's EHS standards, EMCOR UK policies, and statutory regulations, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain procurement technical and safety risk categories and act as the WSA representative at procurement category meetings for technical and safety standards.
  • Develop and implement site-specific EHS plans aligned with EMCOR UK standards.
  • Conduct detailed Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) and Risk Assessments for all project activities.
  • Review and approve Method Statements and Work Notifications.
  • Maintain and coordinate staff training records to ensure competency for upcoming works.
  • Deliver toolbox talks and safety briefings.
  • Monitor and enforce lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) and electrical safety procedures.
  • Conduct routine safety inspections and PPE audits.
  • Investigate and report near misses, incidents, and environmental events.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Manage permit registers and temporary works designs.
  • Ensure all trade contractors meet EHS competence requirements.
  • Liaise with the client's DCS teams and trade contractors to coordinate safety activities.
  • Chair weekly trade contractor meetings and monthly look-ahead sessions.
  • Technical and safety Competency Management System (CMS) development & management, including management of the AE/CP database.
  • Ensure compliance with global minimum performance requirements for construction safety.
  • Mobilisation and transition planning, scheduling and reporting.
  • Maintain EMCOR UK's Legal Register, undertaking regular reviews of existing EMCOR UK technical and safety policy to ensure full compliance with applicable technical and safety legislation.
Qualifications
  • Minimum HND-Level qualification in a relevant engineering discipline, a similar technical field or equivalent technical/engineering experience.
  • Hold or working towards professional registration, i.e. IEng or above with IET, CIBSE etc.
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety.
  • Proven experience in data centre or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Strong knowledge of construction safety standards, risk assessment, and incident investigation.
  • Working knowledge of quality management systems with a high degree of procedural, technical and HSE compliance.
  • Ability to interpret and provide authoritative advice on technical and safety management issues.
  • Experience of informing businesses in good practice technical and safety management.
  • Ability to shape and influence, ability to analyse complex data and deliver evidence-based recommendations through a high level of written technical standards.
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and drive a proactive safety culture.
  • Promote zero-harm culture and ensure compliance with EMCOR UK and client safety standards.
