Contract Period

1st December 2025 – 31st May 2026, £20.47 an hour (umbrella)

Environmental Health – Food Control Inspection Programme

Qualifications
  • Higher Certificate in Food Premises Inspection or degree in Environmental Health
  • Working towards EHRB registration
  • Minimum of 5 GCSEs (or equivalent), including English
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct food hygiene inspections of rated and unrated food businesses
  • Assign risk ratings and FHRS (Food Hygiene Rating Scheme) scores
  • Complete and submit inspection reports within required timescales
  • Report imminent risks or concerns under relevant legislation
  • Conduct follow‑up inspections for businesses with low FHRS scores
  • Document changes in business status, ownership, or closures
  • Update records and securely handle inspection documentation using Council systems
  • Provide FHRS scores and reports to Food Business Operators (FBOs) and the Council
Inspection and Reporting Requirements
  • Inspections must comply with the Food Law Code of Practice (England) 2025
  • Use Council‑provided forms:
    • Handwritten Food Inspection Report (Front Cover & Schedule)
    • FHRS Score Report Sheet
    • Premises Proforma for food hygiene
  • Categorise findings into:
    • Confidence in Management
    • Compliance with Food Hygiene and Safety
    • Compliance with Structural Requirements
  • Confirm FHRS scores in writing within 14 days
  • Submit all reports to the Council within 10 working days and scan documents into NEC Assure/M3
Equipment Provided
  • Laptop with access to NEC Assure/M3 systems
  • Warrant card and ID badge
Other Duties
  • Immediately report any imminent food safety risks
  • Notify Council of any serious health and safety hazards
  • Report suspicions under the Modern Slavery Act 2015 to authorities and the Council
  • Revisit premises scored FHRS 0, 1, or 2
  • Request new registration for businesses with changes in ownership or name
  • Confirm and report businesses no longer trading
Standards
  • All work must meet the Food Law Code of Practice (England) 2025 standards
  • Council may terminate employment early if inspection quality is insufficient
