Job description
Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Design Engineer to join a pioneering UK-based specialist in military communications technology, located in Letchworth Garden City.

This is a hands-on, multifaceted engineering role ideally suited to an experienced and adaptable electronics professional who enjoys working across the full product lifecycle. You will be supporting high-reliability products used in marine and sub-marine low/very-low frequency (VLF/LF) communications, a field in which the company is globally recognised as a leader.

Responsibilities
  • Design and modify RF-based electronic assemblies for VLF/LF communication systems.
  • Oversee projects from concept through to production and delivery.
  • Manage sub-suppliers for components and mechanical services (box-build, machining, etc.).
  • Investigate and diagnose faults at component and trace level on new and field-returned PCBs.
  • Generate detailed reports, technical documentation, and engineering change notices (ECNs).
  • Ensure compliance with company health & safety, environmental policies, and quality standards (ISO 9001).
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Strong understanding of electronic and electrical design at the component level.
  • Background in analogue design and low-noise circuit design (LF radio experience advantageous).
  • PCB layout design and familiarity with assembly processes.
  • Proven fault-finding skills down to trace/component level.
  • Experience with mechanical drawings and sub-assembly integration.
  • Familiarity with obsolescence mitigation in long-life electronic systems.
  • Experience within an ISO 9001 design and manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Electronics, Physics, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in electronics design or support within commercial or defence sectors.
  • UK with no restrictions for UK Security Clearance.
