The Role

Working within a team, this role provides support to specific departments in the control and management of Work In Progress (WIP), including regular communication with Partners and fee earners. Revenue Controllers also liaise closely with the billing team in Warsaw ensuring all invoices are raised as per Partner instructions in a timely manner.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct regular meetings with Partners to ascertain transaction completion, fee expectations, and billing dates, taking action to facilitate billing. Update central billing forecast reviewed by the UK Revenue Manager.
  • Establish positive working relationships with partners, fee‑earner and secretaries.
  • Monitor and reduce aged WIP in line with the lock‑up day budget.
  • Respond to Partner requests for information, e.g. fee level reporting on clients over time.
  • Assist the Department in meeting monthly and annual billing targets.
  • Constantly monitor WIP, billing and activity levels, arranging and attending meetings with Departmental Managers/ Practice Managers to discuss progress.
Billing
  • Liaise closely with the billing team in Warsaw ensuring details align with Partners’ and client instructions.
  • Assist front office users with the billing workflow, including training new users.
  • Liaise with Partners and the Revenue Control Manager or supervisor regarding special billing arrangements.
  • Prepare detailed schedules of hours recorded or outside counsel, disbursements for reporting or to submit with bills.
  • Monitor clients requiring e‑billing, ensuring correct procedures so invoices are accepted via e‑billing.
General
  • Monitor and track partner credits for correct allocation in the system and rectify errors.
  • Chase departmental missing time, handling time recording queries from fee earners and secretaries.
  • Meet with the Revenue Control Manager or supervisor to discuss current position and anticipated progress within the relevant Department, as required.
  • Liaise with the relevant Credit Controller for each Department.
  • Provide general assistance to the Revenue Control Manager or supervisor with ad hoc project work, as required.
  • Comply with the firm’s policies and any other legal obligations, effectively managing risks where related to this role.
Experience, skills & knowledge
Technical skills
  • Proficient in using MS Office, including Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of Elite 3E accounts system and e‑billing systems would be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge of Solicitors' Accounts Rules and VAT.
Personal attributes
  • Good knowledge and understanding of WIP management, obtained through work experience in a similar environment. Experience working in a law firm is not essential for this role.
  • Possesses confidence to deal effectively with Partners and discuss their files.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to prioritise and manage multiple tasks, particularly when working during busy periods and to tight deadlines.
  • Able to interact positively at all levels and a good team player.
  • Methodical approach to work with a keen focus on accuracy.
  • Committed and motivated approach to work; professional in outlook, attitude and appearance.
  • Flexible and prepared to work additional hours at month, quarter and year ends.
