Resident Engineer – Body Exterior

Location: CW1 3PL, Crewe

We are recruiting for an experienced automotive engineer to work with our OEM customer on their site as a body exterior engineer. The role involves project management - interfacing with design, manufacturing, purchasing and other technical departments at the customer and interfacing with Bertrandt development teams.

• Take a lead role in the development and delivery of exterior trim and body structure systems for new vehicle models
• Lead communication between Bertrandt teams and customer departments during design development, release, prototype and manufacturing ramp up phases
• Plan and lead design reviews, status reporting meetings and attend appropriate customer led meetings
• Maintain status for functional, weight, cost, craftmanship and quality targets using customer templates
• Liaise with stakeholders and suppliers to minimize complexity and tooling investment
• Collaborate with customer departments and suppliers to achieve vehicle package and manufacturing feasibility
• Communicate CAE feedback on attribute performance and requirements for additional analyses
• Report and interpret results of tolerance analyses and provide input to craftmanship Gap and Rad Plan
• Support DFMEA and identification of SC & CCs
• Coordinate bid specifications for bought-out components/ assemblies
• Maintain product development process look ahead and deliverables planning
• Prioritise timely and accurate delivery of data to support product development project milestones
• Support engineering release and change management processes as well as resolution of pre-production build issues
• Interact with project team members in the UK, Germany and other locations as required

What you bring along:

• Proven ability to self-mange workload and maintain a workplan to ensure project deliverables are met
• Proven ability to comprehend all technical content through previous work developing body exterior systems design solutions
• Experience taking body exterior systems delivery through prototype build phases and SOP ramp up
• Well-developed ability to communicate effectively with activists at all levels within Bertrandt and the customer’s organisation
• Ability to be an independent and proactive actor in the interests of the project
• Experience in leading effective meetings (reviews, status report-outs and for issue resolution)
• Used to being flexible to the demands of the working environment
• Prior experience in Bentley PD an advantage

Position is confirmed inside IR35. Successful candidates need to be eligible to work in the UK, hold a UK driver’s license and be able to travel to Europe and internationally.
