Overview
Are you an experienced and innovative NMC Registered Nurse? This is a permanent role based at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. You may be required to work across sites as required. You will collaborate with local R&D members to assess capacity and capability for research studies, working with members of the research teams to inform potential participants of relevant projects. This role requires an NMC registered Adult Nurse and familiarity with Good Clinical Practice (GCP).

You will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, along with attention to detail. Training will be provided; however, you will be familiar with GCP. You will work with the clinical and non-clinical research team to support staff and manage a caseload of patients.
Main duties
- Assist with participant identification and recruitment, obtain informed consent from patients, and organise patient visits.
- Collect and process patient samples and complete case report forms; maintain study documentation according to Good Clinical Practice (ICH-GCP).
- Maintain effective communication with patients, carers and professionals to ensure service delivery and provide research information to patients and relatives.
- Explain practical aspects of clinical research and act as a resource and support to patients and families.
- Facilitate the informed consent process in compliance with GCP; ensure patients and relatives fully understand the nature of the research.
- Ensure study-specific investigations are undertaken as required by the protocol to ensure safety of study participants.
- Monitor treatment toxicity/side effects and implement changes to treatment as required by the protocol; arrange collection of blood and other research samples; ensure safe storage of specimens in collaboration with clinical and nursing teams, phlebotomy and laboratory staff.
Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
- Essential: NMC registered Adult Nurse; evidence of continuous personal and professional development and a clear vision of their academic pathway
- Desirable: Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certification or working towards completion; evidence of relevant post-registration qualifications
Knowledge & Experience
- Essential: Minimum of 1-year clinical experience in a healthcare setting; ability to prioritise clinical issues; ability to explain complex concepts to patients/participants; experience using MS Office and Excel; experience in UEC, Medicine, or surgical specialty
- Desirable: Experience in clinical research, participant recruitment or research delivery; awareness of ICH GCP; ability to collaborate with other agencies; knowledge of ethics, HRA, R&D legislation and consent in clinical research
